Granville FC are the champions
Granville FC of St James won the Jamaica Football Federation’s Charley’s JB Rum Western Confederation Super League title on Saturday night, beating first-time finalists Sandals Whitehouse 3-2 on penalty kicks at Jarrett Park.
The teams were tied 0-0 after regulation and extra time, before Granville FC won the shoot-out to complete the double for this season after winning the mid-season title earlier in the year. It was Granville’s FC first title in 16 years.
FC Reno were the last team to win the double three seasons ago, on their way back to the Red Stripe Premier League.
Granville FC will now join the winners of the other three Confederations in a play-off for the two promotion places in the Red Stripe Premier League next season.
After the teams failed to score in 120 minutes, it came down to penalties and David Gillard and Andrew Allen gave Granville a perfect start scoring their kicks, while Delroy Davis scored Sandals Whitehouse’s first kick, but Leonardo Rankine missed as Granville FC led 2-1.
The third kickers for both teams, Dane Franklyn for Granville FC and Andre Vassell for Sandals Whitehouse, both missed.
Jason Rose gave Granville FC a 3-1 lead, but Devin Campbell pulled Sandals Whitehouse to one goal short when he scored.
Odean Snow’s miss left the door open for Sandals Whitehouse to level the scores and force sudden death, but he missed and handed the title to Granville FC.
