Fire damage section of Brown’s Town market
ST ANN, Jamaica – Fire damaged a section of the Brown’s Town market in St Ann on Tuesday morning.
Approximately 25 stalls were damaged in the early morning fire which started at about 6:00 am.
Reports are that someone saw fire on the upper floor of the market and called the fire department. The fire department responded speedily and the blaze extinguished.
Fifteen stalls were damaged by the fire and another 10 damaged by water, but there was only minimal damage to the physical structure of the market facility.
The cause of the fire is not yet known, however, the St Ann Parish Council is now assessing the damage to the facility.
Secretary manager of the parish council, Claudette Carter, said cleanup of the facility will begin today. Vendors in the affected section of the market will be relocated to another section of the market until the work is finished.
