The 12th Annual CIN Lecture will be held at Harlem’s Schomburg Center For Research In Black Culture in New York on October 20.
The lecture series is a community forum for Caribbean political leaders and academics “to reflect on regional affairs and provide hope and direction for the future”, according to Stephen Hill, the Jamaican founder and CEO at the
Caribbean International Network (CIN)Television, a cable TV channel in the New York Tri-state area which attracts some 18 million mainly Caribbean-American viewers with programmes likeTVJ’s Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall,Junior Schools Challenge Quiz,What A Gwaan, andDigicel Rising Stars.
“The annual lecture attracts capacity audiences to participate in this unique exchange between Caribbean thought leaders and members of the New York Caribbean community,” Hill says.
Munroe, who is also executive director of National Integrity Action (NIA), the Jamaican Chapter of Transparency International — a leading global coalition against corruption — is regarded as one of the Caribbean’s most distinguished public scholars, with an outstanding career in academia, civil society advocacy and public service.
A very controversial figure in the 1960s, 70s and 80s in Jamaica, Munroe led both the now defunct communist Workers Party of Jamaica , as well as its affiliate trade union, the University and Allied Workers Union, which is currently led by Opposition Senator Lambert Brown.
