Newly crowned Jamaica Football Federation Charley’s JB Rum Western Confederation Super League champions Granville FC will be making yet another bid to get to the Red Stripe Premier League when the Confederation play-offs get underway later this month.
Granville FC beat Sandals Whitehouse 3-2 on penalty kicks at Jarrett Park on Saturday and will play off against the other three Confederation champions for the two places in the Red Stripe Premier League next season, replacing the relegated Rivoli United and Cavalier SC.
Meanwhile, Granville FC won two of the top awards after Saturday’s final with Cion Peterkin being named Most Valuable Player (MVP) and also winning the Fair Play award.
Sandals Whitehouse’s Akeem Shackleford was the top scorer with 13 strikes since joining the team in the January transfer period.
Granville FC won a total of $220,000 for winning both the league and mid-season titles; Sandals Whitehouse took home $120,000 for finishing as first runners-up, Beaches Negril got $90,000 for third and Wadadah FC $60,000 for fourth.
Clark’s Town, the beaten mid-season finalists, received $10,000.
Granville and Whitehouse had played out a 0-0 draw after 120 minutes of regulation and extra time before the game was decided on a nail-biting shoot-out.
