Constant Spring beat Santos 3-1 to lift St Catherine Master’s League trophy
Constant Spring are champions of the INSPORTS St Catherine Masters League after beating Santos 3-1 in the final at Spanish Town Prison Oval, on Sunday.
Oniel ‘Chippy’ McDonald (13th) and Orville Mullings (15th) gave Constant Spring the upper hand at the break. Victor Samuels (55th) cut the deficit for Santos early into the second half, but Mullings replied immediately at the other end with his second goal of the match in the 56th minute.
Mullings, who was named most valuable player, won the Golden Boot Award, scoring eight goals, while Christian Ambassadors and McCooks Pen shared the Most Disciplined Award.
Chief organiser Elaine Walker-Brown said the competition achieved its main objective.
“We want the older men to know that we appreciate them and also for the younger footballers to understand that when you are representing your team, community or country on the field or off the field, there are standards in terms of their behaviour that is expected of them. And throughout this competition, we believe those objectives were met,” said Walker-Brown, who is the INSPORTS officer in charge of St Catherine.
“I must commend everybody for contributing to the success of this inaugural competition, and the plan now is to make it bigger and better next year,” she added.
