JAMALCO, Mico ‘A’ lead in Supreme Ventures Major League netball

JAMALCO and Mico ‘A’ are currently unbeaten leaders in their respective groups in the 2016 Netball Jamaica/Supreme Ventures Limited Major League competition after last Saturday’s rounds of matches at the Leila Robinson Courts.

The Winston Nevers-coached, Clarendon-based Jamalco lead Group One with 15 points from five consecutive wins, followed by UWI Pelicans with six points from three starts, Molynes United ‘B’, also on six points from four outings, Mico ‘B’ on six from four starts, Raven, six from five matches, Waulgrovians ‘A’, three from four outings, and Global United ‘A’ without a point after five starts.

Mico ‘A’, jointly coached by Annette Daley and Janet Guy, lead Group Two with maximum 18 points from six starts, followed by UTech Knights with 15 points from six outings, Molynes United ‘A’ on 12 points from five games, Waulgrovians ‘B’ on 12 points from seven matches, Cablepro on nine points from five starts, SPEG ‘A’ on six points from five matches, Alpha ‘A’ on six points from six outings, SKIBO and Jetsetters ‘A’ both without a point after six matches.

Nevers said his encounter against UWI Pelicans last Saturday was a tough match.

“I have never underestimated my opponents, particularly UWI Pelicans, who have already beaten us some time ago, and we have to play at our best, and curtail their dangerous plays,” Nevers said.

“Although we lost the services of top shooter Marsha Murphy-Dawkins due to an ankle injury, and Naudia Brown for personal reasons, we still have a strong and competitive line-up that can hold their own nicely. Alongside this, we have a number of young players who can hold their own,” said Nevers

Meanwhile, in Major League matches played last Saturday, Jamalco got the better of the Conrad Parkes-coached UWI Pelicans in a close encounter 31-29.

The principal scorers for Jamalco were Elaine Davis, who scored 16 goals from 25 attempts and Taniesha Bernard with 15 goals from 21 efforts, while for UWI Pelicans, Thristina Harwood got 16 from 25 attempts and Rebekah Robinson added 10 from 22 efforts.

Mico ‘A’ defeated Molynes United ‘A’ 34-27. For Mico ‘A’, shooters Stephanie Anderson got 17 goals from 21 attempts and Mischa Creary with 15 from 21 efforts, while for Molynes ‘A’, Shantal Slater scored 21 goals from 26 efforts with Kera Christie adding six from 11 efforts.

UTech Knights got the better of Cablepro 42-38 through shooters Shenel Riley with 20 from 30 efforts and Khadijah Williams with 23 from 38 attempts; while for Cablepro, Petal Smith scored 22 from 30 efforts, and Deneen Taylor added 16 from 32 attempts.

Waulgrovians ‘B’, coached by Marvette Anderson, defeated SPEG ‘A’, coached by Arlene Findley, 59-45. Shooters Simone Gordon, with 49 goals from 60 attempts and Hasana Williams with 10 from 17 efforts did the damage for the winners, while for SPEG ‘A’ Diane Dricketts got 30 goals from 48 attempts and Crystal Grant scored 11 from 22 efforts.

Mico ‘B’ got the better of Waulgrovians ‘A’ 38-32. Daniella Masters scored 35 goals from 40 attempts and Shauna Jones hit 13 from 25 efforts for Mico ‘B’, while for Waulgrovians ‘A’, LaDonna Lamonth got 26 goals from 36 attempts.

Alpha ‘A’ narrowly beat SKIBO 36-3. Nathalie Grant scored 25 from 30 attempts and Suzanne Brown got 11 from 17 efforts for the winners, while for the losers, Samantha White scored 30 goals from 37 attempts.
