Riding bike on UWI lawn costs man $10,000
A motorcyclist, who was spotted by the police riding his bike on The Great Lawn on the compound of the University of the West Indies in Mona, St Andrew, was ordered to pay a fine of $10,000 or serve 30 days.
Marvin Dubidad, who hails from August Town in St Andrew, was fined by Magistrate Maxine Ellis after he pleaded guilty to breaches of the University of the West Indies (Mona Campus Security Act).
The court heard that Dubidad was spotted on April 20 and 22 riding on The Great Lawn, located behind the Norman Manley Law School, on the campus.
Dubidad, a delivery man, had gone to the campus to deliver goods at the stalls on campus when he committed the offence.
However, on Thursday when he appeared, he denied riding on the lawn twice.
“Is one day my lady,” he said.
