Invaders capture TFA Division One title
FALMOUTH, Trelawny — Former National League contenders Invaders FC won the Trelawny Football Association National Rums of Jamaica Division One title beating Granville FC 4-3 on penalty kicks at the Elleston Wakeland Centre in Falmouth on Sunday after they had played out a 0-0 regulation and extra time draw.
Invaders won the first prize of $100,000 and both teams will be promoted to the Major League next season.
The teams had topped the points table after the regular season but had failed to score during the game, forcing the spot kicks where Invaders’ goalkeeper Ricardo Genus came up big with two saves after missing the first kick.
Decoy Palmer, Marlando Wilson, who was named MVP and the top scorer, Michael Lee-Chin and Sheldon Bryan all scored for Invaders, while Jerry Hinds, Neyos Samuels and Kayon Hall scored for Granville FC.
Genus saved a shot from Omar Scott and the final attempt from Oneko Brown that would have forced sudden-death penalties, if he had scored.
