Ninja Kid’s faith in God pays off
Ninja Kid has not had a major hit song since the early 1990s. He is hoping his latest single, Before God Come (produced by Markus Myrie), will break that dry spell.
The song has enjoyed some airplay which pleases Ninja Kid, whose real name is Ojukwu Simpson.
“Trust mi, it’s a good feeling to see how the fans have been receptive towards the song. It’s been a while in coming,” he said.
Originally from Nannyville in East Kingston, Ninja Kid is a contemporary of Beenie Man and Bounty Killer. His early songs include
Body Basics, Boom Bye, Gal A Run, andHardcore Loving.
In 2004 he enjoyed a mini-revival by appearing as the jerked chicken vendor in Elephant Man’s video for the hit song
Pon Di River Pon Di Bank.
“The amount of exposure that video gave me was overwhelming. People were seeing me on BET and MTV every day. It opened up a lot of doors for me because I even went on tour with Elephant Man, and we went to the BET and MTV awards as well,” said Ninja Kid.
Recently, he has worked with several producers including Romeich Records, Troyton Music, Star Kutt Records and TJ Records.
