Faulkland FC secure top spot in Sandals/ATL Senior League football
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Faulkland FC held off a late-charging Seba FC on Friday at Jarrett Park to win 3-2 in their St James Football Association Sandals/ATL Senior League third-round cross-zone game and ensured they will finish the regular season with the most points.
Seba FC were knocked out of semi-final contention after their come-back from 0-3 down failed and were beaten for the first time in three games.
Faulkland FC managed the win even without their top two scorers, Jourdaine Fletcher and Peter-Lee Vassell, who have so far combined for 26 of the team’s league-high 47 goals, both away on National Under-20 duties.
With one game to go, they could be the first team since the 2006-07 season to get at least 50 goals in the regular season after Fogo United scored 53 in 2006-07, and Seba Youths scored 52 that same year.
The win saw Faulkland FC, who have earned promotion the last two seasons, improve to 37 points and cannot be caught for the top spot, while Seba stay on 18 points and even with two games to go cannot qualify for the semi-finals.
Melbourne FC, last season’s beaten finalists, are in the last semi-final spot on 26 points and can only be passed on points by Heights FC or on goal-difference by Marl Road and Lilliput Rovers.
On Friday, Taveak McNeal scored the opening goal in the 28th minute, becoming the 11th Faulkland FC player this season to get on the scoresheet, while Husana Johnson doubled the advantage in the 35th minute and Courtney Allen made it 3-0 in the 74th minute.
Seba FC had two quick goals late in the game, from Ricardo Hart in the 82nd and Asornie Binger in the 85th minute, to set up an interesting last five minutes.
