Labour Day Labour Day
Jamaica is a land of natural beauty. The air, water and land we enjoy is protected by Mother Nature herself but we have a responsibility to do our part as well. Every year individuals, clubs, organisations and groups take time off from everyday activities in order to stimulate community spirit, enhance the environment and promote the attitude of sharing and togetherness.
Although Labour Day is a public holiday many people wake up early to enjoy good fellowship and time spent with neighbours doing beautification work. A lot of work is done on this day: some projects would usually include the repairing of buildings and the painting of community centres, basic schools, old people’s homes, churches and other public areas. On Labour Day, everyone is encouraged to grab a paintbrush, broom, rake, clipper, trash bag or anything they can use to beautify their community.
