The wonderful, horrible truth

Dear Editor,

“If the only truth a man knows is his own truth, then he knows nothing.”

Beloved, I was fully awake at 1:30 am, panting, anticipating, the beckoning I knew was to come.

For some time now I have been meeting the Holy Spirit at our special place and time. He does not disappoint.

Tonight, He takes me to the Old Testament book of Jeremiah, chapter five, where God commanded Jeremiah to “run to and fro”, seek an upright man, one who will tell the wonderful, horrible truth. “A wonderful, horrible thing is committed in the land. The prophets (church leaders) prophecy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means, and my people love to have it so, and what will ye do in the end?”

I weep, for I can recall so many messages that I have heard about the blessings of the Lord. Many preach that this is the time and the season of great blessing and prosperity in one’s health, marriage, family, finances, and overall lifestyle. Yes, God does promise to bless us, however; blessing often comes after a time of true repentance, a broken and a contrite heart, the Lord will not despise.

As leaders, how often do we teach people to fear the Lord, to revere Him, to love Him with all our heart, with all our soul, and with all our might, and to love our neighbours as we do ourselves?

“Fear ye not me? saith the Lord. Will ye not tremble at my presence? …You, my people, ignore the cries of the poor and needy, you pant after your neighbour’s wife, you only seek to satisfy your own fleshly desires, you ignore My pleas to return to Me, to seek Me with all your hearts and to acknowledge Me as the one true almighty God, yet you want Me to bless and prosper you?”

How unpopular, how inconvenient, this truth is.

People of God, let’s be unpopular. God says, “Love the things that I love and hate the things that I hate” Will you?
