Stone, Moore eye top places at ISKA World Champs
RICHARD Stone and Adrian Moore, Jamaica’s male fighters, have their eyes set on gold at this week’s International Sport Kickboxing Association’s (ISKA) World Championships in Stuttgart, Germany.
Stuttgart will be Moore’s second tilt at the ISKA Worlds after winning bronze in Holland 2012. Stone, a newcomer to the combined martial arts team, gets his first taste of ISKA competition but went to Germany with a big reputation.
Set to fight in the heavyweight division, Stone created history by making Jamaica’s 2016 combined martial arts squad first team from the reserves after impressive local and overseas performances, bypassing the normal invitee process.
Fighting at November’s International Taekwon-Do Federation North America and Caribbean Championships in Vancouver, Canada, Stone won gold in sparring to secure second position in qualifying for the 2016 team.
Moore, the senior male, believes adjustments and what he learnt four years ago should land him on the medal podium at the May 18-22 tournament.
“I will be coming off the line more, instead of staying in front of them and fighting their fight. I am well prepared for the championships,” said the lanky light heavyweight.
“I don’t know who I will be competing against. I am not that familiar with them, having fought the championship just once, but I am way better than four years ago,” added Moore, who has since competed in dozens of bouts locally and internationally.
Moore ended the 2015 combined martial arts team season third on 39 points with local podium finishes. He ended the year in blazing fashion, winning gold at the US Open in July and October’s Original Taekwon-Do Federation of America (OTFA) 2015 Open at Longevity Sports Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
