Ja’s cricket squads prepare for regional tourneys
Four of Jamaica’s national cricket squads are presently in preparation for West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) regional tournaments this summer.
They are the senior women’s team, and the respective Under-19, Under-17 and Under-15 male sides. The squads are engaged in a series of trial matches that started May 19 and will end May 23.
A press release from the Jamaica Cricket Association said the Under-17 and Under-19 squads, coached by Clive Ledgister and Ordelmo Peters, respectively, will each be reduced to 18 players this weekend. The women’s and Under-15s will be cut to 18 on May 28.
Cleon Smith is head coach of the senior women’s team, while Robert Samuels is in charge of the U-15s.
The WICB deadline is May 31 for the submission of the final Under-15 and Under-17 squads. The senior women’s squad is due June 6, while the Under-19s are to be submitted by June 10.
Trinidad & Tobago are to stage the Under-17 tournament between July 8 and 18, while Grenada are to host the Under-15 edition from July 24 to August 4.
The Under-19 tournament is set to be played from July 24 to August 20 in St Vincent and the Grenadines, while the women’s tournament is slated for Guyana from July 3 to 25.
