St Andrew retain JTA/Sagicor National Athletics Champs
ST ANDREW amassed a combined 359.50 points to retain their title at the Jamaica Teachers’ Association (JTA)/Sagicor Jamaica National Primary, All-Age and Junior Schools Athletics Championships that ended at the National Stadium yesterday.
The St Andrew team brought the two-day exciting championships to a fantastic close by capturing the final event, the boys’ 1600 metres medley open final in 4:02.13 minutes.
It was also the 18th time St Andrew were crowning themselves champions as they dominated the proceedings from Friday’s first day.
The other placing in the overall points standings combined boys and girls included, St Catherine with 255.50 points. They were followed by St Ann (230 points), Portland (220), Westmoreland (193), Manchester (168) and St Elizabeth (153).
St Andrew also won the boys’ category with 228 points, while Portland were the winners of the girls’ section with 138 points.
Kevin Wilson of St Andrew captured the boys’ Under-17 100-metre final in 11.73 seconds, ahead of Sanyae Gibson of St Andrew 11.79, while the girls’ Under-17 100m was won by Jada Beckford of St Andrew in 13.56, ahead of Tatyana Crawford, also of St Andrew, in 13.65.
Lennox Barrett of St Andrew won the boys’ Under-15 100m in 12.30 from Jeffery Barton of Westmoreland 12.38, while the girls’ Under-15 100m was won by Shenequa Vassell from St James 13.39′, ahead of Shackera Green of Manchester 13.46.
Shamar Davis of St Ann won the boys Under-17 200m final in 24.07 seconds, beating Kevin Wilson of St Andrew 24.08, while the girls’ Under-17 200m was won by Latoya Lawrence of Portland 28.08, ahead of Beckford from St Andrew 28.03 seconds.
Davis of St Ann captured a second gold when he returned to win the boys’ Under-17 400m final in 52.75, just ahead of Kevin Wilson of St Andrew 52.97 seconds. The girls’ Under-17 400m was won by Latoya Lawrence of Portland in 1:03.42 from Shanyauna Tyrell of St Andrew 1:05.12.
