Racers gen-sec urges athletics fans to purchase online tickets

Online ticket sales for the Racers Grand Prix is going well, according to Cynthia Cooke, general secretary of the Racers Track Club, and she has urged athletics lovers to purchase tickets quickly because they won’t be disappointed, especially after watching the men’s 100m.

Double Olympic champion and world record holder Usain Bolt will match strides with former world record holder Asafa Powell, the youngest 100m World champion Yohan Blake, and 2014 Commonwealth Games champion Kemar Bailey-Cole in what is expected to be one of the most exciting and anticipated races on local soil.

“I urge them to go online and purchase tickets because we have a good field. After the 100m men, I think they would see that their money was well spent,” Cooke told the Jamaica Observer yesterday.

It’s 19 days before the inaugural Racers Grand Prix IAAF Area Permit Meet and e-tickets have been on sale since May 3.

“It going reasonably well. We didn’t expect much because we know how Jamaicans buy tickets at the last minute, but I am surprised…probably about 100 tickets sold already. I am surprised,” Cooke emphasised.

“The people who normally call someone to book tickets, I guess they are the ones that have purchased,” she added.

“When you go online you choose your seats and you see which one is gone and which one you can choose. I hope that this is how we will move in the future,” said Cooke.

Patrons can actually select where they want to sit in the grandstand via the e-ticket option online by hovering over the seating diagram, and once they click on a particular box, it shows the particular block, the row, the seat number and the price. It also displays the status, whether or not the seat is available.

A premium ticket will cost US$41.67 in blocks H, I, J, K and L of the grandstand, while it will cost patrons US$25 for the general area. Blocks E, F, M, X and V are not for sale. Entrance to the bleachers will cost US$4.17.

The other physical ticket will start selling on June 1 at the Pegasus and selected Jamaica National outlets.

The Racers Grand Prix will take place on June 11 at the National Stadium and is expected to attract some of the world’s best runners, jumpers and throwers.

Over 100 athletes are expected to compete from more than 10 countries for a meet that will be held to aid in the development of Jamaica’s athletics and that of the Racers Track Club.
