Subrina Richards makes history at ISKA Championship
Subrina Richards rewrote local martial arts history late Friday when she won a second gold medal at the 10th International Sport Kickboxing Association’s (ISKA) World Championships in Stuttgart, Germany.
She became the first Jamaican to win double gold at the event. The 20-year-old University of the West Indies student had already created history by defending her lightweight points-sparring crown.
Richards, already the only Jamaican to have ever successfully defended an ISKA World Champs title, added the continuous-sparring gold to her tally, making her one of the most decorated fighters at the event.
“The feeling is beyond incredible to be the first Jamaican to win double gold and the fact that I am a female taking home this,” she said on yesterday, as the Jamaicans looked to increase their tally at the tournament which ends today.
“Defending my title from last year is also really, really amazing. I am proud of myself and happy to take this home for Jamaica,” Richards added.
The lanky Jamaican, a cousin of top male fighter, Nicholas Dusard, beat Stacy Price of England in the quarter-finals and Sabrina Schneiders from Germany before beating another German, Marina Machic in the final.
