Vows May 23 – A Carnival Love story
Like the lyrics of Peabo Bryson and Roberta Flack’s Tonight I Celebrate My Love, Damian and LeToya did just that as they shared their first dance as husband and wife. (Courtney Chen)

Vows May 23 – A Carnival Love story

A carnival love story was sealed on April 9, 2016 when Damian Boyne, software engineer at Ultimate Software, and LeToya Stairs, marketing consultant, vowed to spend the rest of their life together.

The Immaculate Conception Catholic Church was perfectly transformed by the wedding décor team at Petals and Promises, using a colour scheme of champagne, gold, cream, oak and garden green to complement the tropical elegance theme of the wedding.

Vows takes you to the altar.

How they met…

(LeToya’s version)

(LeToya’s version)

“It started in 2012 at a fete during the Miami carnival weekend. I had been nagged by my friend and wedding planner Kara about the perfect relationship I would have with her brother Damian. As fate would have it, we met at the end of one of the weekend’s parties. We got together for lunch that same weekend and exchanged numbers. Our courtship began in earnest a few weeks later.”

With Damian living in Tampa, Florida, and LeToya in Fort Lauderdale, the 263 mile-long-distance relationship continued to blossom, but would move to another level during the 2013 Trinidad carnival when Damian relocated to South Florida to be with LeToya.

The Proposal…

The Proposal…

Like a true carnival romance, it was only fitting for Damian to pop the question in the midst of the revelry. This he did the day after Valentine’s in Tobago. Making full use of a perfect tropical sunset on the shores of Pigeon Point beach, Damian went down on one knee in the sand and proposed to LeToya… she said yes.

The Ceremony…

The Ceremony…

Paying homage to the indigenous floral beauty of Jamaica, the couple utilised local flora and fauna for their décor. The lush tropical setting was further accented with a Miami-styled lounge.

The bride made a dramatic entrance in a white Jovani mermaid gown, with a tightly strung pearl jewel neckline that connected to a plunging sweetheart pearl bodice with beaded details. The groom was dapper in a black, custom-tailored suit by Austin Burke. The bridal party was equally elegant with the three bridesmaids in ASOS sequinned gowns and the five groomsmen in suits by Oscar de la Renta.

A Unique Moment…

A Unique Moment…

Just like a fairy tale, the matchmaker for the couple and sister of the groom, Kara Anderson, was both the maid of honour and wedding planner. Indeed her daughters were the flower girls and her husband chipped in with his DJ skills. Naturally, the team at Petals and Promises pulled out all the stops.

What the I do’s meant(according to both)…

(according to both)…

“Our wedding vows spoke to an everlasting commitment to build on the pillars of prayer, respect, connection, communication, and to have fun together and always, for life and life afterwards.”

The Reception…

The reception took place at Boone Hall Oasis, where guests enjoyed a tropical-themed menu catered by Lisa Gordon.

The Honeymoon…

The Honeymoon…

The newly-weds enjoyed a week-long excursion in Havana, Cuba.

The moms had their moment too — mother of the groom Dr Charmaine Barrett-Boyne (left) and mother of the bride Ann Stairs unveiled the cake made by Pansey Burnett. The cake was a traditional fruit cake with lace liners and fondant icing. (Courtney Chen)
