I would be a good finance minister, says Mark Golding
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Former Justice Minister in the previous administration Senator Mark Golding says if asked he would serve as finance minister in the next People’s National Party government.
Golding told OBSERVER ONLINE on Saturday that although he is a lawyer by training, he was also interested in economics.
“If I’m offered the position I would seriously consider it because I think I would be able to do a good job in that position and it’s something that I would be interested in doing…And that’s whoever the next leader of the party is,” Golding said when asked by OBSERVER ONLINE.
The leader of Opposition business in the Senate added that his experience as a commercial and corporate lawyer would assist with the job.
“Most of my legal work has been in the capital market and the financial sector and I was a founder of Dehring Bunting and Golding in 1992, which we built into a very successful business.
“I was on the executive management team and I had to learn about finance, so I’m interested in economics and I think the business community knows me well … I’ve built a reputation as somebody who has the capacity to work hard and who can execute on deliverables on a timely basis,” he said.
