Main contenders complete gallops
The main contenders for Saturday’s 10-furlong Supreme Ventures-sponsored Lotto Classic run for the Governor’s Cup completed their final round of gallops over last weekend.
Rated as having a really good chance of winning the race, which punters over the years have dubbed the ‘poor man’s’ Derby, the Lorenzo Robinson-trained
Mr Doitbetta cantered 10 furlongs on Saturday morning last, galloping the last three furlongs in 35.3 seconds.Mr Doitbetta enters the Lotto Classic coming off two consecutive wins.
The majority of the other contenders did their gallops on Sunday morning, with notable runs by the Anthony Nunes-trained
Bigdaddykool and the Robert Pearson-conditionedWill In Charge.
Fitted with cheek pieces and tongue tie,
Bigdaddykool cantered 10 furlongs, galloping the last six furlongs in 1:14.4 minutes, which was the bullet work over six furlongs for the morning.
Will In Charge cantered nine furlongs galloping the last seven in a clocking of 1:29.3 minutes, the fastest gallop for the morning going seven furlongs.
Chace The Great from the barn of Dwight Chen cantered nine furlongs while galloping the last seven in a very respectable 1:30.3 minutes.
Jamai Raja, who is conditioned by Richard Azan, cantered nine furlongs on Sunday, galloping the last seven furlongs in 1:30.4 minutes.
The Nunes-trained
Orpheus, who was a decisive winner on last over nine furlongs and 25 yards when he utterly dimissed the challege of Prince Consort Stakes winner Chace The Great, cantered 10 furlongs while galloping the last six furlongs in 1:16.3 minutes wearing blinkers and tongue tie.
Notably there was no recorded gallop work for 1,000 Guineas winner and Oaks runner-up
Nuclear Affair, who trotted instead yesterday.
