More than 6,000 without electricity after heavy rains
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Jamaica Public Service (JPS) says that, as at 7:30 this morning, over 6,600 customers were without electricity as a result of the heavy rains that affected the island last night.
The power company said in a news release that that parishes affected include Kingston, St Thomas, St Catherine, St Ann, St Mary, St James, Clarendon, and Manchester.
“The power delivery system has been affected by flooding, poles being displaced by landslides, and fallen trees coming in contact with the power lines,” JPS said Wednesday.
The power company assured that restoration crews are continuing their efforts to restore supply to customers as quickly as possible.
JPS said some communities in St Thomas have been badly affected by flooding, which has necessitated the activation of its emergency operations in that parish.
In the meantime, JPS said its customer care team has been communicating with customers via text messages and telephone.
