MEMBERS of Our Lady of the Angels Preparatory School (OLAPS) Home School Association (HSA), school staff, parents and students on Monday, participated in Labour Day activities at the Molynes Road-based institution, which focused on remodelling the students’ bathrooms and general beautification of the facility.
With past student Kevin Edwards as chief overseer, remodelling activities included repainting of the walls and repair and replacement of bathroom fixtures and fittings Preparatory work was also done for the installation of granite countertops over the summer holidays.
In the meantime, Maxwell McDonald, supervisor of nursery/landscaping, led the upgrading and beautification of the school grounds. The work carried out included the planting and grooming of shrubberies, and enhancement the entrance pathway to the compound.
“It was indeed a wonderful day, fantastic achievement and teamwork at its best,” remarked HSA President Tamara Crooks.
“I am impressed with the number of parents who participated in the activity, and I say ‘thank you’ to everyone who has responded to the HSA’s effort to keep the parental involvement fire burning whilst we provide guidance on how to stay in school. By working together we can better serve our school community. An effective HSA represents strong parental involvement, and parental involvement represents student success. It’s common knowledge that students do better when their parents are involved, and parent volunteers will find it rewarding to give back to their children’s school and connect with other parents as part of a vibrant community,” she said.
The sponsors of the event included BH Paints, Triphina’s Pharmacy, National Solid Waste Management Authority, and Exotic Stones.
