Gov’t pledges US$150k to Racers Grand Prix
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Jamaican government through its Sports Development Fund (SDF) has committed US$150,000 (J$18.8m) to the inaugural Racers Grand Prix set for June 11.
Sports Minister Olivia ‘Babsy’ Grange made the announcement a short while ago at her office on Trafalgar Road in Kingston.
The historic Racers Grand Prix, organised by the Glen Mills-led Racers Track Club, the home of the incomparably Usain Bolt, has a budget in excess of $100million in order to stage the meet.
“It may not be enough to cover everything,” said the minister in pledging the funds. “it’s US150,000,” she added.
“What this means is that we have proved to the world that we are ce”ntre stage in track and field and the fact that we can host a meet of this magnitude with such international renowned athletes, really speaks volume to how much we are respected,” said Grange.
