Suriname teen stabbed to death by boyfriend
PARAMARIBO, Suriname (CMC) – The police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a teenager in the aftermath of a reported argument with her 26-year-old boyfriend on Wednesday.
The police report that Janice Scheltema, 17, lived with her boyfriend Romano V, 26, in Livorno, a residential area to the south of here.
According to reports, Janice moved out a few days ago but returned on Wednesday afternoon with her sister to collect her belongings when Romano reportedly attacked her with a “sharp object” when she entered the house.
When bystanders barged in, they found Janice dead on the floor. They managed to disarm Romano and called police who took him into custody.
This is the third homicide here in two days.
On Tuesday police found the bodies of Leelawattie Sookhoo, 37, and Tisha Ahtram, 10, in their house in Nieuw Amsterdam.
Police say they were strangled to death with a rope.
Sookhoo’s boyfriend, a fisherman, is considered a suspect, but he has disappeared without a trace.
