Freestyle expands his brand
IF you were a regular at the Cactus and Asylum nightclubs in the early 2000s, chances are you jammed to the selections of Gary Freestyle.
He made a name spinning the hot songs in clubs before moving into radio.
“I’ve been a DJ from I was a teenager. I moved into radio in 2008, just seven years after working on the nightclub circuit,” Freestyle explained.
He got his start on radio at Best FM and has been at Portmore’s Suncity 104.9 FM for the last five years.
After nearly a decade on the airwaves, Gary Freestyle is looking to broaden his horizon.
“I plan to get into other things such as events promotion, music production, and maybe artiste management. I have been around the business so long and I have learned a lot over the years,” he said.
Born Gary Wallace, Freestyle is originally from Kingston. After Cactus and Asylum closed, he maintained a presence on the party scene, playing at events such as Bikini Sundays, Memories, and most recently Stir it Up.
His approach to production and management would be similar to ‘selecting’.
“My true aim is to really let my audience have a good time, allow them to dance and appreciate music for what it truly is,” he said.
