CANTO announces appointment of general secretary

PORT OF SPAIN , Trinidad (CMC) — The Caribbean Association of National Telecommunications Organisations (CANTO) has announced the appointment of a general secretary.

The organisation, says Teresa Wankin — a Trinidadian —is the first employee at the secretariat to serve in the post.

“Mrs Wankin is a champion for organisational and people development, with a deep sense of respect for and commitment to our stakeholders and the delivery of service to our members.”

Wankin says she intends to direct her attention to the delivery of services to members, ensuring that their needs are met in a relevant and timely manner.

She joined CANTO in 2001 as a research officer and has held several strategic positions — having led the technical departments, sales, publications, member services and more recently, operational initiatives at the secretariat, producing and delivering the association’s events.

CANTO is a trade association of the information technology sector, shaping information and communication in the region.

Founded in 1985 as a non-profit association of eight telephone-operating companies, it now has over 120 members in over 34 countries.
