Granville All-Age win 4th VMBS Under-13 title
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Granville All-Age won their fourth St James Football Association VMBS Under-13 title after carving out a close 1-0 victory over first-time finalists Irwin Primary in the final played at the UDC Field on Friday.
The Peter Hurge-coached Granville All-Age completed a perfect season where they won all nine games, five in the first round, two in the quarter-finals, the semi-finals and then Friday’s decider.
They got the goal early, as Anthony Francis scored in the second minute form a goal mouth scramble, then they withstood the attempted torrid comeback from Irwin Primary.
The game lived up to expectations after the close semi-finals where Granville beat Flanker Primary 2-1 in extra time, and Irwin upset Howard Cooke 2-1.
In the third place game, Howard Cooke beat Flanker 5-4 on penalty kicks after the game ended 0-0 after regulation and extra time.
Howard Cooke’s goalkeeper Jevon Menzie saved Romaine Roberts’ kick after scoring one himself to lead his team to the consolation win.
Alex Forbes, the competition’s top scorer, Nicardo Banton, Ricardo Butt and Nevaldo Christie scored for Howard Cooke as well, while Antonio Flemmings, Renaldino Wilson and Nathaniel Wilson scored for Flanker Primary.
