Reggae boy Orgill nets seventh goal, tops Veikkausliiga
REGGAE Boy Dever Orgill registered his seventh goal from 10 starts in 11 appearances, to move atop the scoring table in the Finnish Veikkausliiga yesterday.
The 26-year-old resumed club duties after a brief, but respectable stint with the national outfit at the ongoing Copa America Centenario in the United States.
Orgill netted the 45th-minute opener to help steer IFK Mariehamn to a 2-0 win over PS Kemi. The 1-0 scoreline held until the penultimate minute of regulation time, when his teammate Aleksei Kangaskolkka closed the door on the opposition with the second.
The eastern Jamaica native’s opposite number and fellow Caribbean national, Trinidad and Tobago’s Rundell Winchester, failed to cause any significant problems for the IFK Mariehamn defence. In the 62nd minute, PS Kemi pulled Winchester for another son of the region, St Vincent and the Grenadines’ Cornelius Stewart, who was also successfully shut out.
The brace push Orgill’s IFK Mariehamn to 31 points (9-4-2) after 15 fixtures, just behind 11-time champions HJK Helsinki on goal difference. Both teams sit 10 points clear of third-placed Kuopio, which have one game in hand.
