Samuel McKenzie’s Answers…
1. What do you enjoy most about being a dad? There are so many things I enjoy about being a father but most of all I enjoy watching my children growing up and displaying the good values and attitudes that I work tirelessly to instill in them. I also enjoy assisting them with their homework, playing games with them such as scrabble, dominoes, ludo etc. These things has given me a brighter outlook on life, a true sense of purpose and a real good reason for living. Just to hear my daughters say daddy, makes me proud.
2. What traditions did your father pass on to you that you want to pass on to your children? My dad always tell me that there is no legacy that can make one as rich as honesty, hence I need to be a hard and dedicated worker in order to achieve my goals. He would also tell me that children will come in due time so I should focus on achieving my immediate goals. These I have passed on to my children which they have absorb well.
3. What was one of the hardest moments you have had being a father and why was it hard? My older daughter resides with her mother overseas, and at one time her mother lost her job and every month religiously I had to purchase US currency and send for my daughter from a meagre salary. I normally send her pocket money for holidays and birthdays but in this instance I had to send money for over one year. I have not regretted doing this for a moment.
4. Are there things you wish you had done differently as a father? Not really, I could have waited and have one female mothering my two children, as did my father, but not withstanding I don’t have much regret. I must say I feel honoured as well as I am humbled to be a father which I consider as a special blessing from the Almighty. I must say I am the proud father of two lovely girls ages 22 and 17 years old.
