When we met Norman Manley International Airport Customer Service Representative Damion Harriott and his fiance Camille Edwards, AT&T retail sales consultant, at the Kingston Bridal Week wedding exhibition back in November, we knew they were planning a wedding. Eight months later, on Saturday, June 11, the two exchanged vows at the Laughing Waters Villa in St Ann. Vows officially introduces Mr and Mrs Damion Harriott.

How they met (Camille’s version)…

I met Damion on my first day on the job. I’d just started working at the Norman Manley International Airport, when I saw him on my way in; he was actually leaving. I couldn’t get over the look on his face when he saw me. In fact, I liked him off the bat, but I didn’t know if he was seeing anyone. The next time we saw each other, we hit it off instantly, and after a couple months of socialising, one thing led to another and we decided to start dating.

The proposal (Damion’s take)

…A week or so before the proposal, I ordered Cami’s engagement ring online and asked my aunt to deliver it. Her flight was delayed and she arrived in Jamaica a few days later. I got the ring two days before Cami was scheduled to travel back home to the US. I took Cami and her friend Joelle to Trident Hotel for lunch the next day. After lunch, they decided to go for a walk on the beach — Camille loves water and the beach — which gave me enough time to bury the ring in the sand. Joelle was already in on the plan, and helped with the distraction, then led Cami straight to “the spot” to dig it up. When she found the box, she already knew what it was, I went down on one knee, and asked her to marry me. With tears in her eyes, she said yes.

I Now Pronounce You

Damion professed his love for Camille in the presence of close family and friends on the lawns of the Laughing Waters Villa overlooking the north coast. He wore a cream three-piece suit from Spencer’s Tailoring with a white shirt, turquoise tie and a starfish brooch. His groomsmen wore similar outfits sans matching blazers. The bridesmaids wore turquoise chiffon dresses by dressmaker Sharon Wright. Christina Perri’s A Thousand Years signalled the bride’s entrance. Her younger sister Danielle Edwards sprinkled turquoise petals ahead of her procession. Camille wore an off-white sheath with gorgeous beading along the bodice, which created an hourglass silhouette; her hair in spirals, and pulled back. She carried a bouquet of colourful calla lillies. Reverend Sylvester Rankine officiated the ceremony. Post “I do’s”, the couple signed their marriage certificates and secured the union with a sand-pouring ceremony.

Sun, Sand and Sea

The Jamaica Observer Table Talk Food Awards-winning team from Miss T’s Kitchen catered scrumptious hors d’oeuvres and tipples during cocktail hour, while the bridal party was whisked away for photographs. Camille’s dream was to have a beachfront reception, and with assistance from their friend Sharon Hutton, the space was transformed into an al fresco dining area accentuated with oceanic decor elements in colours of turquoise, gold, white and silver, with tables named by exotic travel destinations such as the Maldives, Hawaii, Tahiti and Bora Bora. On DJ Genesis’ cue, newly-weds Damion and Camille made their entrance to the reception to My Boo by Ghost Town DJ’s. Thereafter guests enjoyed a three-course dinner buffet style during several rounds of heartfelt toasts and advice to the newly-weds. Mothers of the bride and groom Antina Harriott and Sandra Ebanks blessed the three-tiered Black Forest and red velvet wedding cake by Lincoln Peterkin. Camille and Damion then walked over to the dance floor for their first dance as husband and wife to Kiss Me by Ed Sheeran. The two enjoyed a seven-night stay at the Grand Bahia Principe Jamaica resort.

Camille’s Favourite Moment… seeing how the wedding day I’d envisioned came together perfectly.

Damion’s Favourite Moment…I have many! The first was when I saw Cami coming up the aisle in that gorgeous dress. My next moment was signing the marriage certificates, officially she is my wife, this was something I had imagined since the first time we met.
