PPV operators have less time to renew expired road licences
KINGSTON, Jamaica — As of August 1, 2016, operators of public passenger vehicles (PPV) will have less time within which they can re-apply for an expired road licence.
The time period will be reduced from three years to one.
On Monday, the Transport Authority said in a news release that this is to improve the adequacy of PPV service nationally.
It said the change in policy means that a road licence becomes invalid a year after it has expired.
The applicant will therefore be required to submit a new road licence application, provided that the route and/or licence type is available, at the time, the release said.
It added that the decision to reduce the allotted timeframe for renewal of expired road licences was part and parcel of the renewed thrust to increase the availability of licensed public transportation to meet the growing demands of the commuting public islandwide.
