Rio-bound!
TWO Digicel customers have won themselves all-expense-paid trips for two to Brazil to cheer on Team Jamaica at the Olympics in Rio this August.
They are Kenolee Hamilton, a 34-year-old farmer from Nine Turns District in Clarendon, and Nandi-Gail Stanton, an accountant from Portmore, St Catherine. The prizes were awarded through the Digicel Sprint to Brazil promotion.
For Hamilton, social media proved to be her winning ticket as she won after gaining the most points in Digicel’s Sprint to Brazil Social Media Trials, via
Facebook,Twitter. Hamilton will be travelling to Brazil with her sister, Terry-Ann.
“It has always been my dream to go to one of the Olympics,” Hamilton said. “Athletics has always been one of my favourite sports and every time the Olympics come around, I watch every race and cheer for my country. The way how I love it, sometimes I watch the races and cry when I see how the athletes are out there representing Jamaica, whether they win, lose or draw. So, I can’t wait to be in that stadium this August cheering on the Jamaican team live and in living colour!”
Stanton, meanwhile, was informed about her grand prize while in the midst of her birthday celebrations.
“The messages would come up on my phone telling me how many entries I had in the promotion, but I wouldn’t pay them any mind. I never thought that I could ever win. So when I got the call from Digicel on my birthday telling me that I won the trip to Brazil, I thought I was being tricked! It was so surreal,” she explained.
Stanton plans to share the experience with her boyfriend of eight years, Oneil Miller. Both will be spending a total of 10 days in Brazil.
The prize package includes tickets to all the races, brand new DL1000 smartphones and service, tours and exclusive access to signed memorabilia from Team Jamaica.
While this aspect of the promotion ended on June 9, Digicel is giving members of the Diaspora more time to help their families and friends in Jamaica win a trip to Rio this summer. To qualify, individuals have to receive top-up of US$10 or more from the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada before June 30.
