Hoopers face Flames in WBA Elite League

MONTEGO BAY, St James — Montego Bay Hoopers will end their regular season in the Western Basketball Association’s Elite Basketball League on a high today when they take on Lucea Flames in the first game of a double-header at the Montego Bay Cricket Club, set to start at 6:00 pm.

Hoopers are on 21 points and lead the standing, and a win today should secure a place in the semi-finals.

Defending champions Granville Jaguars will play Holland Saints in what could be the preview to one semi-final pairing in the second game.

Saints are on 20 points — tied with Catherine Hall All-Stars — and have two games in hand, while Jaguars are on 18 points and have five games to play.

Cricket Club Knights, who are on 17 points with three games to be played, helped their semi-final chances on Saturday with an easy 91-70 win over last-placed Flames at Cricket Club.

Knights’s Daniel Malcolm led all scorers with 28 points as his team outscored Lucea 56-36 over the final two quarters to ease to an easy victory.

Richardo Vaccianna also scored 20 points for Knights, while Garfield Johnson scored 23 points for Flames, and Christopher Gibbon scored 14 points.
