GEORGETOWN, Guyana (CMC) — Minister of Public Infrastructure David Patterson has launched an inquiry into the unauthorised flights from the Eugene F Correia Airport last Saturday by a Guyanese pilot and an American pilot.

During a post-Cabinet briefing on Thursday, State Minister Joe Harmon said the probe would seek to determine who was involved, and recommend steps to ensure that such an incident does not recur.

The owner of Oxford Airways, Munidat ‘Raj’ Persaud, and the pilot from the United States flew two Cessna planes from the airport without customs, immigration or air traffic approval.

After flying through Trinidad and Tobago airspace, they landed on Grenada and Anguilla.

The aircraft were flown out of Guyana despite a High Court injunction pending the hearing and determination of a lawsuit related to the alleged damage of a Domestic Airlines’ plane at Ekereku by one of Oxford’s planes.

However, the pilots ignored that order and flew the planes to Grenada then on to Anguilla, where one of the planes was detained.
