Ja’s medal tally move to 16 at Caribbean Swimming Champs
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jamaica’s swimmers earned another seven medals on day two to improve their medal tally to 16 at the 21st staging of the Caribbean Island Swimming Championships (CISC) in the Bahamas on Thursday.
The 24-member team which had more than 12 finalists on the day, mined two gold and five silver to move their haul to six gold, eight silver and two bronze medals.
Emily MacDonald led the way with victory in the girls’ 11-12 200m free in a time of 2:15.29 minutes and later returned to claim silver in the 11-12 50m free in a time of 31.35s.
Justin Plaschka copped the country’s second gold on the night with a fast 24.21s on his way to victory in the boys’ 18 & over 50m butterfly.
Dominic Walter claimed silver in the boys’ 18 & over 200m freestyle in 1:56.05 minutes, while Kelsie Campbell followed suit in the girls’ 15-17 equivalent in 2:07.11 minutes. Nicholas Vale and Britney Williams also copped silver in the boys’ and girls’ 13-14 200m freestyle with times of 2:00.11 and 2:10.94 minutes respectively.
The medal hunt continues later this evening on day three of the four day event.
