#NatlTrials: Explosive men’s, women’s 100-m finals expected
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The men and women’s finals promise some explosive action as the top contenders advanced on day two of the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA)/Supreme Ventures Limited (SVL) National Senior Championships at the National Stadium in Kingston, a short while ago.
The finals are scheduled for this evening at 9:15.
Rising sensation Elaine Thompson, running from lane one in semi-final one, clocked a comfortable 10.85 seconds to win ahead of her MVP teammate, World and Olympic champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, who was also comfortable in 11.12 seconds.
Veronica Campbell-Brown (11.11s), running unattached did enough to book her spot from semi-final two along with Simone Facey who won in 11.04 seconds in a positive wind speed of 0.7 metres per second.
University of Technology’s Christania Williams (11.10s) also booked her spot from heat three along with Kali Davis-White (11.25s).
Olympian Kerron Stewart (11.24s) and Shashalee Forbes (11.17s) advanced with the next best times.
On the men’s side, triple record holder Usain Bolt made heavy work of semi-final one to win in a time of 10.04 seconds, just ahead of Senoj-Jay Givans (10.05s) and Jevaughn Minzie in a new personal best of 10.07 seconds.
However, 2011 World Champion Yohan Blake clocked a fast 9.95 seconds in a positive 0.4 metres per second wind speed to lead the qualifiers from semi-final two. Nickel Ashmeade (10.01s), former world record holder Asafa Powell (10.02s), Kemar Bailey-Cole (10.04s), and Jason Livermore (10.07s) will also line up in the final.
