KINGSTON, Jamaica – Triple World and Olympic record holder Usain Bolt says he requested medical exemption from the men’s 100m finals at the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA)/Supreme Ventures Limited (SVL) National Senior Championships at the National Stadium, on Friday, after feeling discomfort in his hamstring.

In a post to social media website Twitter, Bolt said he felt discomfort in his hamstring on Thursday after running the first round of the 100 metres.

Bolt said he felt the same discomfort while competing in the semi-finals of the event on Friday and was examined by the chief doctor of the national championships. He was reportedly diagnosed with a “Grade one tear”.

“I have submitted a medical exemption to be excused from the 100m final and the remainder of the national championships,” Bolt said in his post to the social media website.

He also said he will seek treatment immediately.

“(I) hope to show fitness at the London Anniversary Games on July 22 to earn selection for the Olympic Games,” Bolt said.

The 100 metres race was won by Yohan Blake in a time 9.95 seconds. Nickel Ashmeade was second in 9.96 seconds, while Jevaughn Minzie finished third in 10.02 seconds.
