Ten provisionally entered for St Leger
At the close of entries on Saturday, 10 horses were provisionally entered to participate in the 90th running of the Jamaica St Leger sponsored for the second year in a row by ISP Finance Services Limited.
As expected, the top three finishers in the Derby – Future King, Bigdaddykool and Orpheus – renew rivalry in what many pundits see as the race to ultimately decide the best threeyear- old in the land.
The race is embellished with the presence of three fillies – Nuclear Affair, Pinelope and A Thousand Stars. Champion trainer Wayne DaCosta is represented by Future King and A Thousand Stars, while Anthony Nunes saddles Bigdaddykool and Orpheus.
A Thousand Stars was the top filly in the Derby. Fourth in the Derby run on June 25, Will In Charge trained by Robert Pearson is also provisionally entered for the 10-furlong event.
Tomorrow, trainers will decide whether or not they will start their horses in the St Leger with the draw for post positions also taking place tomorrow.
Sorrentino’s Star, Dr Train and Glyder participated in the Derby, but they are missing from the provisional list of runners in the ISP St Leger. In the St Leger no apprentice claims are allowed, with colts and geldings allotted 126 lbs (57.0 kgs) while fillies carry 121 lbs (55.0 kgs).
