Senate regret French mass murders
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Senate this morning expressed regret at the murder of 84 people by an alleged terrorist in Nice, France Thursday.
The issue was raised by the President of the Senate Tom Tavares Finson, who noted that he had shared his sentiments with the French community in Jamaica commemorating their independence at the French embassy in Kingston Thursday night.
Senator Tavares Finson described the murders as a “particularly heinous crime” and asked the Clerk to send a letter of condolences to the French ambassador on behalf of the members.
He was supported by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator Kamina Johnson Smith, and Opposition senators Mark Golding and K D Knight.
But Opposition senator Noel Sloley said that while he accepted that French lives matter, the Senate should also understand that Jamaican lives matter, too.
Sloley said that while 84 people were killed in Nice last night, over 200 people have been killed in Montego Bay since the start of the year.
“All lives matter,” Senator Sloley insisted.
