CPL UPDATE: Tallawahs score 108-run win over Patriots
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Jamaica Tallawahs scored a comprehensive 108 run victory over St Kitts and Nevis Patriots to make in their second from as many home games in the 2016 Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) Twenty-20 at Sabina Park on Saturday.
The Tallawahs after being asked to take first strike posted a daunting 183-6 from their allotted overs and later restricted the Patriots to a paltry 75 runs inside 16 overs.
Scores: Jamaica Tallawahs 183-6 (20 overs); Patriots 75 all out (15.5 overs) Jonathan Carter was the best scorer for the Patriots with 23, with Evin Lewis 17 and Krishmar Santokie 16, the only other batsman to offer any resistance.
Right-arm pace Kesrick Williams led the Tallawahs bowling attack with three for 19 from four overs, with Andre Russell taking two for 11 from two overs. South African Dale Steyn bagged two for five and Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan two for two.
Earlier, Kumar Sangakkara laid the platform for the Tallawahs competitive total with a top score of 65 from 47 balls and included
seven fours and two sixes in a wicket partnership of 74 with Rovman Powell who gave strong support with an attacking 35 off 22 balls.
Powell’s knock had four fours and one six.
First match hero Shakib Al Hasan later chipped in with a snappy 34 off 17 balls to push the Tallawahs along to 183-6 from their allotted 20 overs.
Left-arm seamer Krishmar Santokie was the pick of the bowlers with three for24 from four overs, while another left-arm Sheldon Cottrell had one for 28 and left-arm spinner Tabraiz Shamsi had one for 30.
