CPL UPDATE: Tallawahs set Patriots 184 for victory
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Jamaica Tallawahs have set the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots a target of 184 for victory in their second Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) Twenty-20 home fixture at Sabina Park on Saturday.
After losing the toss the Tallawahs were asked to take first strike, and lost Captain Chris Gayle for one and Chadwick Walton for eight, but two crucial partnerships involving Kumar Sangakkara laid the platform for the competitive total.
Sangakkara led the way with a top score of 65 from 47 balls and included seven fours and two sixes in a 74-run third wicket partnership of 74 with Rovman Powell who gave strong support with an attacking 35 off 22 balls.
Powell’s knock had four fours and one six.
First match hero Shakib Al Hasan later chipped in with a snappy 34 off 17 balls to push the Tallawahs along to 183-6 from their allotted 20 overs.
Left-arm seamer Krishmar Santokie was the pick of the bowlers with three for24 from four overs, while another left-arm Sheldon Cottrell had one for 28 and left-arm spinner Trabaiz Shamsi had one for 30.
