Foreign Affairs Ministry confirms safety of 4 J’cans in Turkey
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade says it has made contact with four Jamaicans currently in Turkey and assures that these people are safe.
The ministry issued a statement Friday in the advent of a failed coup attempt in Turkey, which left at least 265 people dead and more than 1,440 others injured.

According to the statement from portfolio minister Kamina Johnson Smith, a three-member, all female, Jamaican delegation is now in Istanbul, participating in the 40th Session of the World Heritage Committee of UNESCO. The three women are safe.
Meanwhile, one Jamaica student, who has been contacted, confirmed that he is safe. The ministry said the Permanent Mission of Jamaica to the United Nations in Geneva, which is also accredited to Turkey, is seeking to reach out to the others.
The ministry said it will continue to monitor the situation of our nationals in Turkey and will provide updates as they become available.
