Another GSAT triumph
AS any parent would, Mildred Walters beamed with pride as she spoke of her daughter’s accomplishment following her sitting of the Grade Six Achievement Test (GSAT) in March, the results of which were recently made public.
Her eldest of three children, Kristine Williams, 12, did exceptionally well in the annual national exam.
“She is just extraordinary,” Walters said, citing that Kristine had been doing well in school over the years and that she expected the results she received.
Kristine scored 100 per cent in communication studies; 98 per cent in integrated science; 98 per cent in social studies; 99 per cent in maths; and 97 per cent in language arts. She had a 98.4 per cent average.
A student at the Gibraltar All-Age and Infant School in St Ann, Kristine was able to achieve results that no other student was able to. She recorded the highest average ever in the school’s history.
“I feel elated,” Kristine, who was head girl of the rural institution, told the Jamaica Observer North and East, adding that she was especially happy to earn a place at St Hilda’s Diocesan High School in Brown’s Town in the parish.
“I studied a lot. But I spent most of my time on communication task because I was weak in that area,” Kristine said.
The promising student who wants to become a medical doctor said she intends to continue excelling at the secondary level.
At the same time, her mother expressed that she, too, has high expectations of her to continue excelling at that level.
Added to that, Kristine’s teacher Melina Harris told the Observer North and East that she was proud of her students’ accomplishments.
“This is excellent,” Harris said.
“This year’s performance was very good. I feel elated because most of my students got the school of their choice, and not only the school of their choice, but with good averages.
“This year I really think the students have done very well. This could not be possible without the help of the hard-working teachers and Principal Sonia Walton at this prestigious institution,” Harris added.
