Cops identify Tivoli gunman in social media video
POLICE say a man who was last Friday seen in a video on social media running through a section of Tivoli Gardens, West Kingston, with a rifle in hand, had been questioned by law enforcers three days earlier for his alleged involvement in criminal activities in the community.
The incident happened during a violent protest by residents upset at the police shooting of a 19-year-old man.
The gunman’s name, however, has not been released.
In the meantime, the police confirmed that the man who posted the video on the Internet had fled the community in fear of his life.
The police said they would continue their operations in the troubled area, and plan to host a community meeting with the residents to help ease the strained relations following the shooting of Tevin Gordon, alias ‘Scrappo’, in an alleged confrontation.
The shooting happened at around 7:30 am on the third floor of building 12 in an area of the community known as ‘Bumps’. Gordon was pronounced dead at the Kingston Public Hospital. Police alleged that a 9mm pistol, loaded with eight rounds, was seized during the alleged confrontation.
During the protest residents hurled stones at the police while the Denham Town Police Station and a police post in the community were fired on by gunmen.
