U-20 World Champs: 4x400m girls run World Junior leading time
BYDGOSZCZ, Poland — A world Junior leading time by the Jamaican girls in the preliminaries of the 4x400m relays on today’s penultimate day of the IAAF World Under 20 Championships at Zawiszaw stadium in Bydgoszcz, Poland brightened up a gloomy morning here.
The quartet of Stacey-Ann Williams, individual 400m gold medallist Tiffany James, Roneisha McGregor and 400m bronze medallist Junelle Bromfield cruised to a time of 3:33.18 seconds, winning their heat comfortably ahead of Poland 3:38.23 seconds and Italy also in 3:38.23 seconds.
The boys’ team of Anthony Carpenter, Sean Bailey, Aykeeme Francis and Terry Thomas ran a season’s best 3:08.80 seconds for third in their prelims behind medal favorites Botswana 3:03.75 seconds and Japan- 3:07.59 seconds.
Shanique Wright finished 11th in the women’s triple jump with a best mark of 12.91m (1.8m/s) while both male discus throwers Roje Stona who had one legal throw- 53.12m and Kevin Nedrick-55.7m faied to get past the first round.
