Zouks maintain winning feeling against Tridents in Hero CPL
St Lucia Zouks have made it two wins at home in the Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) with a seven-wicket victory over Barbados Tridents in a rain-affected contest at the Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium.
Scores: St Lucia Zouks 131-3 (17.3 overs); Barbados Tridents 137-8 (20 overs)
Chasing just 138 runs to win, Charles and Fletcher got the home side off to the best possible start with an 88-run, first-wicket stand before the latter fell for a top score of 45.
A short rain delay shortened the chase by one over, which meant that when play got back underway, the Zouks needed 30 runs from 36 balls. It looked to be a cruise for the home team, but the Tridents were given some hope when Charles went for 41 to the second ball after the resumption.
Watson also departed before the end of the game to a brilliant tumbling catch by Ahmed Shehzad, but the Zouks cruised home with 15 balls and seven wickets to spare. Tridents captain Kieron Pollard ended with top figures of two for 19.
The win takes the St Lucian side to six points and makes qualification for the knockout stages, for the first time in their history, a real possibility.
Earlier, Kyle Hope slammed a top score of 55 to help the Tridents post what seemed a respectable total after they won the toss and decided to bat first.
With wickets falling at the other end, Hope was making his career best Twenty20 score, finishing with 55 from 48 balls — his first fifty in this format.
Captain and local hero Darren Sammy led his team’s brilliant bowling attack with figures of three for 18 to set up the win.
