VIDEO: Investigations into woman’s ‘brutal’ arrest near completion
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Commissioner of Police, Dr Carl Williams said in a release today that he is in possession of an interim report from the Inspectorate of Constabulary (IOC) concerning an incident in which a woman was detained by members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) in Gordon Town on Saturday.
A video of the incident, which went viral on social media over the weekend, sparked harsh criticisms from the public over the way in which the lawmen accosted the woman.
The woman is seen struggling with lawmen as they attempt to take her into custody, allegedly for using indecent language. The cops are seen pulling the woman’s hair, kneeling in her abdomen and covering her face as she struggles with them on the ground.
The police commissioner said he has been assured that the IOC will conclude its investigations within the next few days, following which, a file, including all relevant video footage, will be referred to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for a ruling and advice.
In the meantime, the police are still appealing to the member of the public who video recorded the incident to come forward and assist the IOC with the investigation.
The public will be kept fully up-to-date with all other developments in this matter, Williams said.
