#ReadySetRio: All 3 Jamaicans out in qualifying round of Women’s discus
RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil – None of Jamaica’s three representatives advanced from the Women’s discus qualifying round earlier tonight at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Tarasue Barnett was Jamaica’s farthest thrower with 58.09m. Shadae Lawrence threw 57.09m, while Kellion Knibb ended without a mark.
The automatic qualification mark was 65m, however only two athletes achieved that mark.
Twelve women, led by Cuba’s Yaime Perez who threw 65.38m, progressed. The other athlete to achieve a mark beyond 65m was China’s Su Xinyue, who threw 65.14m.
