YEPP’s Fun Day gets nod
Emerging playwright Kennisha Burrell is pleased with last Saturday’s staging of YEPP Back to School Treat and Family Fun day at the UDC Parking lot in Portmore, St Catherine.
This is the event’s third staging.
“Kevin Downswell’s performance was like the icing on the cake. We had rides, fire breathers, Jamaica’s Michael Jackson, games and a cook-off,” Burrell, a YEPP director, told Jamaica Observer.
She had high praises for EDUCOM Credit Union’s commitment to the event.
‘This is the second year that EDUCOM has come on board. They opened accounts for children and parents to encourage them to save. They also gave away back-to-school supplies and partnered with Carlong Publishers to provide free text books to students,” she said.
YEPP (Youth Expressions Plus Productions) is a Portmore-based collective comprising actors, dub poets and dancers. Last year, the organisation went into primary schools with two productions: A Mother’s Pain and Love Sick Games.
“I wrote those two plays and they were well received by the students at the primary school level because of the situations that they can relate to,” said Burrell.
