KINGSTON, Jamaica – A two-year-old boy was killed execution-style on Luke Lane in downtown Kingston Tuesday night.
According to relatives, two-year-old Demario Whyte was shot in his head at point-blank range by a gunman after his injured father left him at the gate while trying to escape the gunman’s bullet.
The incident, which also left the boy’s uncle in hospital nursing gunshot wounds, follows another shooting incident on Bread Lane in the area on Monday, which left another man hospitalised.
Police have since named 15 men as persons of interest in their bid to curb the recent flare up of violence in the area.
In other news the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) was on Thursday presented with 120 body cameras by the United States Government as part of a pilot project that is expected to improve accountability, human rights record and public trust in the nation’s police force.
During the handing over ceremony, Commissioner of Police Dr Carl Williams disclosed that 88 of 191 recent applicants to the police force failed the required polygraph screening for enlistment.
The JCF, in April, introduced polygraph screening for recruits as part of its strategy to prevent corrupt or tainted individuals from joining its ranks.
